Fox & Wolf
Once upon a time in a land not so far away, a curious fox and a lonely wolf became the best of friends. They played and they played and then one day they realized that even though she was a fox and he was a wolf, they could still grow old together and do all the things that foxes and wolves do. So they went and did all their favorite things, ate all of their favorite things, raised a pack of their own and lived happily ever after.
About the Dave (Avid Wolf) and Serena (The Fox in the office)
When I was sitting down to write this, I thought to myself “what makes a good ‘About Us’ section on a website?” How do we define ourselves in a paragraph or two. Do I talk about what we sell on the site? No, it’s not all about the product. At least it shouldn’t be. It’s about us; the curious fox and the avid wolf. Should I talk about the things we like to do? Maybe. Probably. Should I tell our story? I’d love to. I personally think it’s a cute story. It’s a long one, but it’s kinda hard to tell you who we are and what we do in just a few words when there are so many things. Thoughts like these are what make writing fun for me, but you may want the Reader’s Digest version for the “About Us” section.
So, here goes the short version. My name is Dave, and I am a multi-medium artist and performer. About 18 years ago, give or take (depending on when you are reading this) It was Halloween of my freshman year. I was the new kid that year. I got an invite to a party at another student’s home who I had just met. At the party, I met a fox girl who asked me to dance. She was super cute with her faux fox ears and tail, dark rimmed pointy glasses and poofy orange hair. And she asked me of all people to dance. I said no. Her beautiful, bright expression instantly turned to one of surprise, then embarrassment (her cheeks bright red against her pale skin) followed by my immediate guilt as she turned back to her friends and I scurried off to the few people I knew. Some of my friends said I should’ve danced with the girl, but I didn’t. I didn’t know how to dance to fast music, and I always chickened out when asked to dance, so I chickened out. I didn’t know it then, but that fox girl would one day become my wife and bring countless days of joy, happiness, adventure, companionship and tireless frustrations into my life.
We may not have had a strong chemistry then, but we had compatible interests whether we knew it or not. The following school year, we ended up on the bus together, we quickly found out how much we had in common and we quickly became what I can only describe as best friends. We geeked out for hours every day and every night. Even after getting separated for years, we still found one another irresistibly magnetizing and years later, when she showed up for my 19th birthday party, I couldn’t stop thinking about her. At the end of the night, I walked her out to the car, anxiety ridden and feeling desperate for her to stay. If she got in that car, how long would it be before we crossed paths again? She gave me a hug and as she went for the door handle all I could think was “Last chance, dumbass.” I put my hand on the door and we both knew. That was the first kiss of the rest of my life. We inspired one other and our passions multiplied when we were together. I wanted to do all the things that she wanted to do and she wanted to do all the things that I wanted to do. Not to say there weren’t “compromises” along the way (fancy word for we fought, she won) but after 18 years of history together, we have finally converged both creatively and professionally.
Fox and the Wolf is that convergence. It’s the culmination of years of putting up with each other enough to turn our passions into a business together. We hope we can provide you with something of value, whether it be a simple kindness or a handmade one-of-a-kind product.
